Most books and literature on the subject are written in very technical terms for the professional machinist, someone interested in obtaining high-volume production rates at the lowest cost. These books assume that the machinist has unlimited funds and can equip a shop with the very latest and best equipment. This book is different.   Beginner Books I have a searched this forum, Google, as well as Amazon and there are a lot to choose from but I have not been able to determine which would be the best for a beginner. I have a lathe and a vertical mill and am looking for something that covers how to properly setup the machines as well as basic operations and easy projects.

The problem with being an amateur/home/hobbyist machinist is that you may be self-taught. While reading the chapter on precision measuring, it brought up a concern I had.The third quarter of the book covers modern column or pillar shapers which, although interesting, are machines of a size and complexity that amateur machinist are quite unlikely to own.

The remainder of the book covers modern vertical shapers – again a size and type of shaper that is unlikely to be in your basement. $ plus shipping. Board index The Home Machinist!
